HOW CIVIL MATTERS WORK?
These are a case of opposing parties taking issue and enforcing (“fighting out”) a right in a court environment with a Judge or Magistrate acting as a referee. These types of cases include Family Law matters such as the parents’ rights to care and contact of a child, maintenance claims, divorce, domestic violence, money claims, property rights and disputes such as lease agreements, estate and trust disputes.
HOW CRIMINAL MATTERS WORK?
This is a public forum where the State has decided to institute legal action against an individual. The wheels of the criminal justice system are awakened the minute a crime is reported and so the journey of prosecution, bail and punishment begins.
